Maori War Club
Maori War Clubs, also called Patu, were handheld weapons used by the Maori Warriors of New Zealand sometime between the 11th and 13th centuries. The Maori preferred hand to hand combat, and these weapons fit this style well. Maori armies allowed all capable people into their army, regardless of gender. Despite males making up the majority of the army, all youths began their warrior training at a very young age. Made for the sole purpose of killing the opponent rather than disabling them, these clubs were made of many hard materials such as stone, wood, whalebone and greenstone.
