Mask of Agamemnon

The golden funeral mask known as the 'Mask of Agamemnon' was unearthed in 1876 by Heinrich Schliemann, the pioneering archaeologist who also discovered Troy. It was found covering the face of a body in a royal burial shaft at Mycenae in southern Greece and became associated with the legendary leader of the Greeks in the Trojan War, Agamemnon. Though we now know he lived three centuries after its creation (if he lived at all), the mask remains one of the most iconic artworks of ancient Greece.
